Do not be sexually intimate with one’s aunt, the wife of your father’s brother

 

 “Do not approach his wife, she is your aunt” Vayikra 18:14

 

This prohibition applies specifically to the father’s brother from the same father.

If one was sexually intimate with her while his uncle is alive, since she is a married woman they both deserve death by strangulation.

If after the uncle’s death if done intentionally the punishment is spiritual severance, if unwittingly a sin offering is required.

 

The secondary sexual relations prohibited by the Scribes are

• the wife of a father’s brother from another mother.

• The wife of one’s mother’s brother whether from one father or one mother

 

This applies in all places at all times.
